The October 28 Cross Canada Day of Action was marked in Winnipeg by a demonstration followed by a People’s Forum at the University of Winnipeg.
The demonstration begin at 1 p.m. with about 250 people participating. At the front of the march was a large banner calling for Canadian troops to leave Afghanistan. The focus of the action — and the People’s Forum — was to draw public attention to the nature of the war and Canadian involvement as part of the U.S. agenda for domination of that area of the world and its strategic oil resources.
After the march people remained to listen to the Forum’s keynote speaker — Michel Chossudovsky. Through numerous examples he showed how the U.S., along with its allies Europe and Canada, have moved to control key strategic areas in preparation for other wars and conflicts. Other events at the forums included presentations of videos and talks specific to the issues which have emerged since George Bush declared the “War on Terrorism” in the wake of the events on September 11, 2001.
