Peace Alliance Winnipeg is inviting Winnipeggers to an 8:00 PM vigil at the Manitoba Legislature in support of allowing U.S. war resisters to remain in Canada.
On June 3, the House of Commons passed a motion calling on the federal government to grant residence to all U.S. soldiers who fled to Canada after refusing to take part in the Iraq War. A subsequent Angus Reid poll said 64% of Canadians support allowing war resisters to remain in Canada. Unfortunately, the federal government has refused to accept the will of Parliament.
This vigil is part of a cross-Canada Day of Action in support of war resisters.
It begins at 8:00 PM, this evening, Thursday, July 10.
