Joshua Key will discuss the important humanitarian and legal reasons that led him to desert the U.S. Army after serving in Iraq and seek refuge in Canada.
Joshua is co-author of The Deserter’s Tale: The Story of an Ordinary Soldier who Walked Away from the War in Iraq. He is starting a speaking tour across Western Canada during September and October, seeking support for the cause of U.S. war resisters in Canada.
For many people, Joshua’s qualities as a speaker make hearing him an unforgettable, moving experience. After two years his book is translated into twelve languages and is an international best-seller. It is a book that will define the U.S. occupation of Iraq for many years.
The minority Harper government continues to reject refugee claims by Joshua and other war resisters, and is deporting them to harsh prison sentences in the U.S., defying all the other opposition parties in the House of Commons.
