The Defenders of Mother Earth Walk (Stop the Tar Sands & Pipelines)
Organized by: Red Power United, The American Indian Movement, The United Urban Warrior Society, The Cree Okihcihtâw Society, The warriors of the Rainbow Asiniskawe Nithowak, and members from the The Bear Clan Patrol are all part of the May 4th Coalition.
A coalition of activists and defenders of the Earth are organizing in Solidarity for the International “Stop the Tar Sands!” Day on Saturday May 5th.
People from all cultures must band together to defend against attacks on their lands and resources.
The Tar Sands threatens the culture and livelihoods of The Dene, Cree and Metis communities in Treaty 8 and Treaty 11 Territories in Northern Alberta.
Aboriginal people living in the oil sands region face potential health impacts and environmental impacts because of oil sands development. An estimated 23,000 Aboriginal people live in Alberta oil sands areas, with 18 First Nations and six Métis Settlements located in the region.
The Enbridge Gateway Pipeline/ to the Pacific coast Gateway
Construction of the pipeline potentially trangresses the rights of the Indigenous peoples who have since time immemorial inhabited the lands and waters it would cross.
The government of Canada has a responsibility to recognize Indigenous peoples’ rights to determine whether any pipeline can traverse their lands…
The land is sacred. We must protect the land for our children, grandchildren and children yet to be born.
