No War With Russia
Peace Alliance Winnipeg is joining with organizations across Canada to demand that our government work for peace with Russia. Help us distribute literature urging our neighbours to speak out for peace.
Date: Saturday, Jan. 29, 2021
Place: River Avenue and Osborne Street, Winnipeg
Time: 12:00 Noon to 1:00 pm
Background
The world is on the brink of a war in Ukraine that could quickly become a world war that would kill millions and end civilization. This dangerous situation did not develop overnight. Rather, it is the predictable outcome of attempts led by the United States to encircle and dominate Russia after the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991. Successive Canadian governments have helped create this dangerous situation and it is time for Canadians to tell our government to work for peace.
Canada can lead by example by refusing to arm Ukraine’s government and withdrawing our troops from Ukraine and other eastern European states. Canada should be working diplomatically to help ease tensions within Ukraine and between Russia and NATO. More generally, our government should work for nuclear disarmament and sign the United Nations Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons.
